In a surprising move, Disney has announced a massive change to its upcoming theatrical release schedule, pushing back lots of films including multiple Marvel films and they’ve also removed many films from the schedule altogether.
Here are the movies that have been moved and their new dates:
DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS is moving from 25th March to 6th May 2022
THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER is moving from 6th May to 8th July 2022
BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER is moving from 8th July 2022 to 11th November 2022.
INDIANA JONES 5 is moving from 29th July 2022 to 30th June 2023
THE MARVELS has been delayed from 11th November 2022 until 17th February 2023
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA is moving from 17th February 2023 until 28th July 2023
UNTITLED MARVEL due originally on 10th November 2023 and brought forward a week to the 3rd November 2023
Four movies have also been removed from the schedule
UNTITLED DISNEY LIVE ACTION – 14th July 2023
UNTITLED MARVEL – 28th July 2023
UNTITLED MARVEL – 6th October 2023
UNTITLED 20TH CENTURY – 20th October 2023
No reason has been announced for these changes. There could be multiple reasons, including delays due to the pandemic still causing issues or with the IATSE strike issues causing a potential slow down of productions. Other possible reasons are Disney is just rearranging its schedule as the box office still hasn’t fully recovered. Many of these movies are currently being filmed right now, so Disney could be giving themselves a little longer to get these films made and also push their titles later into 2022.
These changes could also have an impact on when some Disney+ series are released, such as “Ms Marvel” or “Ironheart”, which are directly connected to some of these films.
What do you think of all these changes?
