Disney+ will be launching in South Korea on Disney+ Day, November 12th 2021. Disney is hosting a special event on October 14th to reveal some local content heading to Disney+ across the Asia-Pacific region.
Ahead of the launch, TenAsia has reported that Disney+ will be launching a “Running Man” spin-off titled “Running Man: Playing More Than Running”. The new series will not feature the main series’ host Yoo Jae-suk and will include some new cast members.
“Running Man” is a variety show set in the city, where different characters take part in a championship race where they compete against each other to emerge victorious and claim the prestigious title.
The new spin-off is part of Disney’s strategy to grow its streaming service internationally with more locally made content to compete with other streaming services like Netflix. The aim is to use shows like this to quickly raise awareness among Asian viewers through the popular entertainment show ‘Running Man’ in Korea and across Asia.
No official details have yet been announced by Disney.
Disney is also starting to release locally made Disney+ Originals internationally on Hulu and Disney+, so we might see this series released worldwide. With “Running Man” already being popular around the world, hopefully, this new series will also be available to everyone.
More Korean original content will be announced on October 14th, ahead of the launch in South Korea on November 12th.
