With the Coronavirus causing major problems for Disney in releasing theatrical releases, on September, Disney released “Mulan” on Disney+ as part of a brand new “Premier Access” program, skipping theatres and offering the film at $30.

During August’s quarterly finanical results conference call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said “Mulan” would be a one off, however during today’s quartlerly results, Bob Chapek said they were happy with the results of “Mulan” on Premiere Access.  However, the film did suffered from lots of controversies.

Bob Chapek says they see lots of potential in using “Premier Access”, saying:

“There’s going to be a role for it strategically in our portfolio of offerings.”

This does make sense, especially if 2021 doesn’t see consumers heading back into cinemas straight away and with Disney investing so much time and money into the development of the “Premier Access” system within Disney+, it doesn’t seem a huge surprise to see Disney looking at this as a major way of growing revenue.

However, we will need to wait for more details, which will be announced at Disney’s Investors Day event on December 10th.

Would you be interested in using Disney+ Premier Access for future cinema releases?

Yes I would pay to watch a movie on Disney+ that was supposed to be in the theatres. I know the future is streaming and not sure I ever want to go to the theatres ever again.

Definitely not, Disney+ having premier access will cause a huge strike on the consumers and they won't like it, Disney needs to have it a 1-off and never again.
