One of the biggest complaints that Disney+ subscribers have with the streaming service, is that new episodes of mega-hits like “The Mandalorian” and “WandaVision” arrive in the middle of the night in the United States, leading to some fans having the show spoiled when they wake up and see social media.
Ever since Disney+ launched in November 2019, Friday’s has always been the main day when new content is added to the streaming service.
Some shows and movies have arrived on different days in the past, such as the upcoming “Secrets Of The Whales” series, which will drop on a Thursday because of “Earth Day”.
YouTuber Grace Randolph recently took to Twitter to share some reports that she is hearing. Disney+ subscribers are being asked about debuting shows on different days of the week.
Disney has trialled different release systems already since Disney+ launched, including dropping whole seasons of documentaries at once and later this summer, new episodes from the third season of National Geographic’s Gordon Ramsay Uncharted will arrive on Disney+ in the United States on Monday’s, the day after the latest episode airs on Nat Geo.
With Disney+ dropping many more Original shows on to the platform this summer, could spreading them out improve viewership and give these shows more limelight? For example, is “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” being overshadowed by “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.
Dropping new shows on Friday’s does mean people have something fresh to watch on the weekend. It’s been very successful for shows like “The Mandalorian” and “WandaVision”, but if you’ve got multiple shows arriving on the same day, is it a good idea?
And internationally, with the addition of Star, things are even more packed on Friday’s with sometimes 10 different series dropping new episodes on Fridays. Giving Star its own release day, could help spread out the content.
For a long time, Disney+ was struggling with having not enough content to fill out Fridays, but now it’s looking very different.
Would you like to see Disney+ spread out its weekly release schedule?
