When Disney+ originally launched back in November, Disney added placeholders for lots of upcoming movies that would be coming to Disney+ in the United States at a later date.  This is because these movies are currently available on other platforms such as HBO and Netflix in the United States.  Most of these titles are already available in some regions such as the UK and Australia.

While putting together July’s “What’s Coming To Disney+” article, I double checked the dates within the Disney+ app and noticed most of the dates have been changed slightly, moving to the next available Friday.

Up until now, these legacy movies would be added the moment they are legally allowed too.  Friday has always been the main day for Disney+ to get new content, so it’s not a huge surprise for Disney to promote these movies as new additions in the US.  The release date changes only apply to movies within 2020, though there are a few exceptions, as all the movies arriving in 2021 haven’t yet had their release dates changed.

This looks to be a new change, since only last week “John Carter” was added on a Saturday, but Disney has been adding more library content each Friday, throughout May and also adjusted their release schedule for many Disney+ Original series, from dropping a whole season, rather than weekly.

Here is a list of all the altered release dates within Disney+ for US legacy content:
