Disney has announced it will be closing down its kid’s channels in the UK from the end of September, which include Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior.

They were unable to reach a new carriage agreement with Sky and Virgin Media, meaning that Disney+ will be the exclusive home for all Disney Channel content in the UK.  However, the National Geographic and FX channels will continue to air.

A Disney spokesman said:

“From October 1st, Disney+ will become the exclusive home for content from Disney Channel, DisneyXD and Disney Junior in the UK.

The direct-to-consumer service, which garnered more than 54.5 million subscribers worldwide in its first seven months, will now premiere all the latest films, series and specials from the three Disney Channels, along with offering a rich and expansive back catalogue of Disney Channel titles in the UK, including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Descendants 3 and Phineas and Ferb.

“The Walt Disney Company remains committed to our kids channels business and continues to execute distribution agreements for Disney channels in many markets where Disney+ is also available, with the goal of giving our fans multiple entry points to our storytelling,”

This will obviously have a big impact on the availability of content in the UK, which will now follow other countries such as Australia and New Zealand, which no longer have Disney Channels airing on traditional television.  This will hopefully also result in more content being added quicker to Disney+ in the UK, similar to Australia, which has been getting some shows and movies faster.

Are you sad to hear the Disney Channels will be closing in the UK?
