Following the announcement earlier this month that Disney+ will be launching in Taiwan in November 2021, it has also been announced today that the Disney Channel will be coming to an end on January 1st, 2022.
The official announcement states (translated via Google):
Disney Channel will terminate operations in Taiwan on January 1, 2022. The change is based on the company’s decision after evaluating its business and operations.
We sincerely thank the audience for their continued support and love. We apologize for the inconvenience.
After the discontinuation of the Disney Channel, Disney will continue to provide Taiwanese consumers with wonderful children’s programs through its video and audio streaming platform Disney+.
Your cable TV provider will notify viewers about the termination of operation of the channel on January 1, 2022 via email and a marquee announcement on TV at a later time. For other questions about the viewing package combination, please pay attention to the latest news of your cable TV system or viewing platform.
The channel has been running in Taiwan for 26 years and as with many other countries around the world, the only place to watch to Disney Channel content will be exclusively on Disney+.
Many other countries have had their Disney Channels shut down, as the Walt Disney Company changes its strategy of moving to a direct to consumer business, rather than relying on traditional television networks.
More information on the launch of Disney+ Taiwan will be made later this year.
