This morning, NYC Parks celebrated the Parks Without Borders’ milestone $5.9 million reconstruction of Seward Park, which now features new pavements and curbs, benches and tables, a storytelling alcove, fitness equipment, lighting, plants and lower fences. Seward Park is home of a bronze statue of Togo, the hero sled dog who inspired the Disney+ original movie “Togo.”

Disney+ worked with NYC Parks to install a plaque alongside the statue to honor the famous dog who trekked more than 260 miles to help deliver life-saving serum to children in Nome, Alaska.

Here are some photos from the event:

“Togo” is the untold true story set in the winter of 1925 that takes you across the treacherous terrain of the Alaskan tundra for an exhilarating and uplifting adventure that will test the strength, courage and determination of one man, Leonhard Seppala, and his lead sled dog, Togo.

Togo stars Willem Dafoe and is available now on Disney+.

The statue of Togo needs to be as big, if not bigger than the Salto statue for the work he did.

It would be really nice if Disney helped to preserve the Seppala home in Nome Alaska. You can look it up on Google and there's a website set up for it. They are trying to save the house as it is important to history there. Leonhard Seppala did a lot more than contribute hugely to the serum run. He also had a enormous part in saving the Siberian Husky as a breed. Come on Disney, spend a little more money than a bronze plaque. Donate some money to help save that home where your story and Togo originated.
