Disney is currently developing a new basketball film for Disney+ called “Chang Can Dunk”, which is about a young Asian-American 16-year-old teenager, played by Bloom Li, who and a massive basketball fanatic who is constantly marginalised, not-popular high school kid and wannabe basketball player who becomes obsessed with the idea of learning to dunk, all in an effort to best the school’s basketball star, Matt, played by Chase Liefeld — and hopefully win the adoration of the very pretty Kristy.

Deadline has revealed some new casting details, which will see Dexter Darden and Ben Wang join the Disney+ Original.

Dexter Darden will play DeAndre, a former pro basketball player and two-time Estonia League MVP. Deandre is a millennial hustler trying to grow his social media following, and he agrees to coach Chang. He has previously starred in the “Maze Runner” franchise, Hulu’s “The Binge” and the upcoming “Saved By The Bell” reboot.

Ben Wang will play Bo, Chang’s best friend. He has previously starred in “MacGyver”, Hulu’s “Sex Appeal” and was the lead role in the Disney+ original short film “Dinner is Served”.

“Chang Can Dunk” is written and directed by Jingyi Shao. Lena Waithe, Rishi Rajani, and Brad Weston are executive producers on the film.
