We’re a few months into the launch of Disney+ and it’s been an interesting ride. There are some definite pros and cons to the service. One of the nicest features is the features near the top. Right now, they provide easy access to content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. But, I had an idea of 7 possible features that could be added to improve the site.

1. New to Disney+

Right now, the second list on the home page says New to Disney+, so this one may be unlikely. But, it would be a nice addition that could provide a new way to access the catalogue. It might make more room for another list to show up on each person’s home screen.

2. What’s Leaving

One of the issues that has plagued Disney+ is people looking for content that was previously on the app, but has been removed. These are usually due to contractual issues, but Disney has been less than transparent with the content leaving. A feature that tells you what is leaving the site within the next 30 days could be helpful for some who may want to watch something before it leaves for a different streaming services.

3. Coming Soon

Beyond the news of what may be leaving the site, many may be wondering what is coming to the site. We here at “What’s on Disney+” do our best to keep you updated with new content, but if Disney doesn’t announce certain titles, we can’t add it to our articles. A Coming Soon feature would allow users to look ahead and plan for what’s coming, even if Disney hasn’t made a formal announcement on a title.

4. Holidays

This one would only be really helpful during October and December, but could make a big difference in the way users search for content. Disney provides a lot of content for Halloween and Christmas on its channels. Those specials could easily be added to Disney+ with a feature to make it easier to access. Plus, with Freeform providing 31 Nights of Halloween and 25 Days of Christmas, this could be a gateway to eventually putting all of that content on Disney+.

5. Documentaries

Disney+ has many documentaries and they fall under different headings. A documentary feature could help improve housekeeping. Some viewers may really enjoy documentaries but find it difficult to decide which to watch. Yes, there is a documentary section under the search function, but this could be the way to bring those to the forefront.

6. DCOMs

Disney has a plethora of Disney Channel Original Movies. A DCOM feature could come in handy for anyone looking to take a trip down memory lane to their childhoods or a parent wanting to introduce their kids to the Disney Channel movies they watched as a kid. This feature would make it easier for that purpose.

7. The Muppets

What is the one franchise Disney owns that doesn’t have a feature? It’s The Muppets. Disney bought the rights to the Muppets way back in 2004. Disney has co-produced several of their films and has worked with the Jim Henson studios on several of its shows and TV specials. A feature for a franchise Disney owns makes perfect sense. Plus, there’s plenty of Muppet fans who subscribe to Disney+ who are looking for easy access to the content.

Those are some of the features I would like to see added. I don’t need 10 buttons, I’m just looking at the potential for a sixth and what could be added. Which ones would you like to see?

I would like to see shorts get their own section like movies and tv shows do. Giving the Muppets their own button is a good idea. I would also like to see buttons added for ABC television, Fox television and Fox Movies.

These are some very good detailed and interesting choices Jeremy, but there are a couple of things you should know, there are already 2 collection pages on Disney+ for the DCOMs and The Muppets so thats already been covered (you can find it on the search page and in the collections tab on the home page), but as to what feature Disney+ should really add is a new hub that's focused on content from 20th Century Studios. It would make things a lot easier to find all the content that 20th Century Studios made before they were bought by Disney and showcase their own legacy on the service as well.

Thanks for reading. I'm aware of the collections pages for DCOMS and the Muppets in the search function and down below on the main page. I was thinking of something like the parts at the top of the page that say Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. I know there are collections for Marvel and Star Wars in the search function as well, so I kind of wonder why those two get a main page feature and the Muppets does not. Originally, I had labeled it as a button because that's what I refer to those as, but we changed it to feature because we weren't sure if everyone would know what I meant when I said button. I also agree about the Fox content. I wish I would've thought of that while writing this up. Again thanks for reading.

I appreciate your comment Jeremy and your very welcome, also i agree with what you're saying i think having two different hubs for Disney Channel and The Muppets content does make a lot of sense. Disney Channel has been around for almost 40 years and they have a lot of content that they can showcase and hopefully in the future whenever all of the Disney Channel content becomes available on Disney+ (because some Disney Channel series and DCOMs aren't available on the platform yet but hopefully they will be in the future) then Disney should make a hub that's filled with Disney Channel content, same for The Muppets as well but there are some series and movies that aren't available on Disney+ because of rights issues (like The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets From Space are distributed by Sony and even though Disney has the rights to The Muppet Show they can't add it on to Disney+ because of the musical guests they had on the show and it has to do with the music rights for those artists that appeared on the show and what label they were signed to) whenever Disney works out those rights issues then we could see those Muppets properties be added on to the service in the near future.

They should make the 8th feature Fox because we got a few Fox movies and Simpsons

Agreed with other people here. The top of the home page should include an icon hub for 20th Century. I don't know if such a thing would work but it would be cool if they had a music streaming section where you could access all the music owned by Disney records and make your own playlists. Also in the features section of movies they could include audio commentaries and I noticed a lot of movies don't even have their trailers in the features section. Also a feature that can inform you of which actors are in a particular scene if paused during a movie/film or otherwise the music in the scene.

They need to make the "Remastered Aspect Ratio" option available to certain DCOMs that were last broadcast in 16:9, but are presented in 4:3 on Disney+. I remember seeing Hounded and Cadet Kelly in the 16:9 format on Disney Channel HD US in 2016 when they did the 100th DCOM marathon back then, but for some reason those two movies (along with many others) are cropped to 4:3 on Disney+ still. It really irritates me that they've cropped those films to 4:3 because I really wanted to see those movies in their original production aspect ratios.
