A journey that started in 2008 begins to wrap up as the Avengers reunite to take on Thanos in the third Avengers film, “Avengers: Infinity War.” After a Civil War between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the two factions start working together again and add new members to help fight the Mad Titan who is hell-bent on destroying half of all living things.

This is the ultimate team up movie and I LOVE it. It’s my favorite Avengers movie and my second favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe movie after “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” We get a resolution from both “Captain America: Civil War” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” get to see the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy; who are basically just the Space Avengers; and get one of the most epic endings of all time. It is wonderful how they set up the fourth Avengers film, as well as give us a glimpse as “Captain Marvel.”

There are too many heroes to name in this film but they all lay a critical part in the plot. It works to connect both previous Avengers films as well as the standalone films of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Dr. Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man and Black Panther. The only standalone hero that isn’t really worked into this film is Ant-Man, but we get that explanation in the Ant-Man sequel and the next Avengers film.

It’s a long film, but nothing about it seems extemporaneous. The film flows almost perfectly and makes it feel like every second is crucial to the next. The Russo brothers really outdo themselves here and make it almost impossible for the next Avengers film to live up to this one. There is almost no way for me to love this film more than I do. Only one Marvel Cinematic Universe film tops it for me. That’s how good this film is.

One of the really cool elements of the film is who is left standing after the snap. The characters are meticulously chosen to fill certain roles. And, it’s completely understandable how each of the surviving Avengers would react to the snap as they look to undo what happened.

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a flaw, it’s been the villains. Some of them just don’t live up to the hype. For every Loki, Hela or Vulture, there’s a Justin Hammer or whatever that take of the Mandarin was in “Iron Man 3.” But Thanos does something none of the villains have successfully done, seem like a legitimate threat to the entire team. In the first Avengers film, we get Loki working for Thanos, but it still seems odd that the guy who lost to Thor by himself, would be the main point person against a team of superheroes. Ultron was an improvement, but still just didn’t seem like he could beat them all. With Thanos, I believed the entire way that he could succeed at his mission. Loki is the most likable villain, but Thanos is the most believable.

Ranking: 5 stars out of 5.

I’d give this one 10 if they’d let me. What did you think of “Avengers: Infinity War?”
