During Disney’s CinemaCon presentation, the first look at the upcoming 20th Century Studios film, “Avatar 2” has been revealed and some new details were revealed, including the name, “Avatar: The Way Of Water”.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive,  and the tragedies they endure.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet.

The teaser trailer, which was screened in 3D for the very first time today and drew highly enthusiastic responses from the CinemaCon audience, will debut exclusively in theaters with Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” on May 6th.

In addition, Zoe Saldana, who stars in both “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Amsterdam,” will be receiving the CinemaCon “Star of the Year” award at the “Big Screen Achievement Award” Ceremony on Thursday evening, April 28.

It was also announced during the CinemaCon presentation that the original “Avatar” film will be re-released in cinemas on September 23rd.  Though obviously, you can also watch it on Disney+ now!

“Avatar 2” will hit cinemas on December 16th 2022 and should arrive on Disney+ in 2023.  There will also be three more movies released, in December in 2024, 2026 and 2028.   Each film will be a standalone film, but they will connect to each other.
