During a recent interview on the CBC podcast On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko, “The X-Files” creator, Chris Carter, revealed that 20th Television and Ryan Coogler are developing a new version of the classic show.

“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory,”

“The X-Files” is about FBI agents Scully and Mulder, who seek out to explain the seemingly unexplainable. Their strange cases include UFO sightings, alien encounters and abductions, and just about everything else among the paranormal.  The original series starred Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi.  The series debuted in 1993 and ran for thirteen seasons, with two TV spin-offs and two theatrical film releases.

Ryan Coogler’s production company Proximity Media has a five-year overall deal with Disney.  He has previously co-written and directed the Marvel films, “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.    Other projects currently in development include the Disney+ series, “Ironheart”, and an untitled Marvel series about Wakanda.

Disney hasn’t officially announced that an “X-Files” remake is currently in development.  Not every project in development gets created, and with work still in the early stages, it might be a while until we see an “X-Files” series.

The original “X-Files” series are available to stream now on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
