With the actors’ strike still ongoing, one of the biggest problems for the studios is promoting their new shows and films, since actors who are members of the Screen Actors’ Guild Of America are prohibited from promoting any of their work connected to the major studios.

This week, Selena Gomez, who stars in the Hulu/Star Original series, “Only Murders In The Building”, has gotten into hot water following a post on her Instagram account, tagging the hit series

The post featured a video from the comedy show set, with the caption, “Missing And Wanting”.

Over a million people saw the post until it was removed from Selena Gomez’s Instagram profile following hundreds of comments about her being a scab during the strike and how the post seemed tone-deaf.  However, the post never mentioned what it was in reference to, nor was it directly promoting the show, so it’s unclear if this is a breach of the rules.

It’s also unclear if the post was simply a mistake, such as tagging the official “Only Murders In The Building” account, or if it had been scheduled before the strike and wasn’t deleted when it started.

While Selena Gomez is on strike from acting, she can continue to use social media to post things about her normal life and also most recently, about her music career, as she has recently released a new song, “Single Soon”, since these aren’t connected with acting.  However, some actors are able to promote their films and shows, if they’ve been given a waiver by SAG-AFTRA for an independent production.

The third season of “Only Murders In The Building” is currently being released weekly on Hulu in the United States and as a Star Original on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ internationally.  Season three finds Charles, Oliver & Mabel (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short & Selena Gomez) investigating a murder behind the scenes of a Broadway show. Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) is a Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is cut short by his untimely death. Aided by co-star Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), our trio embarks on their toughest case yet, all while director Oliver desperately attempts to put his show back together.
