Following the huge box office success of “Avatar” and “Avatar: The Way Of Water”, it should come to no surprise that Disney wants more adventures in the world of Pandora.   The film’s creator, James Cameron, has a huge multi-film project underway, which will see three more “Avatar” films released over the next decade.

The next instalment of “Avatar” is due to be released in cinemas in December 2025, and post-production work is already underway on all the visual effects to get the film ready for release next year, since the film was pushed back a year to give them more time to work on the movie.

Earlier this week, at the premiere event of Netflix’s “Lift”, which took place at  Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, Sam Worthington, who plays Jake Sully in the films, confirmed that he is going back to filming on the franchise in February.

“We go back to work on it in a month and it’s big.  It’s bigger than you can imagine.”

Recently, James Cameron also revealed to People that they’ve already filmed some of the fourth “Avatar” movie, since there will be a time jump in the story.

“We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back.  And so the part where we come back is the part we haven’t shot yet. So we’ll start on that after three is released.”

It’s unclear what film Sam Worthington is going to be filming next month, since production on these films is very different. It could be some scenes for the fourth film or just some additional shots/reshoots that they need for the third film.

“Avatar 3” is due to be released in cinemas on December 19th, 2025, with “Avatar 4” hitting cinemas on December 21st, 2029, and the final film will be released on December 19th, 2031.

We don’t know very much about the upcoming third instalment in the “Avatar” franchise, including its name or story, other than it will introduce more races of Na’vi, including Ash People, who are described as “an aggressive, volcanic race” of Na’vi whose leader is Varang, who will be played by Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter Oona Chaplin, who has previously starred in “Game Of Thrones”.

“Avatar” and “Avatar: The Way Of Water” are available to stream now on Disney+.
