Idris Elba To Narrate New National Geographic Series “The Color Of Victory: Heroes Of WW2”
Disney’s National Geographic has announced that Idris Elba will be narrating and executive producing a brand new documentary for National Geographic, which is going by the working title of “The Color of Victory: Heroes of WW2″.
The show will tell the story of three unsung heroes per episode who have previously not been given the spotlight via premium dramatization, character portraits and archive. Elba, whose grandfather served in World War Two, will highlight roles played in Dunkirk, Pearl Harbor and D-Day, as he reveals how the war experiences of people of colour directly inspired post-war movements for freedom that swept the globe.
During an interview with Deadline, Nat Geo’s Tom McDonald revealed that he pitched the show to Idris by showing him some photos from World War Two and asking him:
“What do you think is missing from these pictures? The answer of course was people of color and I realized I didn’t know any stories about them from World War Two. So this felt like a genuinely fresh and original way into a perennial subject.”
This new documentary is being produced by October Films and Elba’s Green Door Pictures. No release details on the upcoming series have been announced. Idris Elba has previously provided voice-overs for animated characters in the live-action versions of “The Jungle Book” and “Sonic The Hedgehog”. He has also previously starred in the “Thor” films and the hit series “Luther”.
