20th Television is developing a new limited series about the true story of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the Indian-American entrepreneur who started Chippendales. The series will detail the insane, darkly comedic, crime-ridden story behind the unique male revue that became a cultural phenomenon.

The series is currently going by the working title of “Immigrant” and will star Kumail Nanjiani in the lead role. It will also star Murray Bartlett, Annaleigh Ashford, Quentin Plair, Andrew Rannells, and Nicola Peltz.

Deadline is reporting that Dan Stevens is also joining the series, where he will play the role of Paul Snider. A hustler and serial schmoozer, Paul Snider stumbles upon the opportunity of a lifetime in the form of Steve Banerjee (Nanjiani) and his struggling LA backgammon club. Through their unlikely partnership, the iconic male stripping institution Chippendales is born.

Dan Stevens has previously starred in the FX series, “Legion”, along with the hit series “Downton Abbey” and the Disney live-action remake of “Beauty And The Beast”.

The series is being executive produced by Kumail Nanjiani and “Pam & Tommy” creator Robert Siegel, who is going to be a showrunner on the series, along with Jenni Konner, who is also executive producing. Also producing the series is Dylan Sellers, Matt Shakman, Emily V. Gordon, Nora Silver and Rajiv Joseph, who is writing on the series along with Mehar Sethi. Matt Skakman is going to be directing the series. Jacqui Rivera is a co-executive producer, and Annie Wyman is a co-producer.

“Immigrant” will be released as a Hulu Original in the U.S. and internationally as an Original on Disney+ under the Star banner and on Star+ in Latin America.
