Sony has been developing a new film featuring Kraven The Hunter, who is a villain from Marvel’s Spider-Man, for a while.

According to Deadline, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is due to star in the title role of the film, which is due to be released in cinemas on January 13th 2023.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he previously played Quicksilver in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron”.  His appearance in the upcoming film “Bullet Train” impressed executives, and a deal was done pretty quickly after one phone call.

Kraven The Hunter originally debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man issue #15 back in August 1964 and has also been in storylines with other Marvel heroes, including Black Panther and Tigra. He is also the half-brother of the Chameleon, and one of the founding members of the supervillain team, the Sinister Six.

Kraven is typically portrayed as a renowned big-game hunter who aims to kill Spider-Man to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter. Though he is often overconfident in his own abilities, which he boasts about, he possesses a great sense of honour, and treats his adversaries as equals until proven otherwise.

The film will be directed by J.C. Chandor and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, with the screenplay written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk.

It was recently announced that Sony and Disney had made a multi-year agreement for the second pay window rights in the United States for all of Sony Pictures film from 2022, including all the Marvel films made by Sony, including Morbius.  This means “Kraven The Hunter” will be released first in theatres, then it will go to Netflix for a while before it can then be released on Disney’s streaming services, Hulu or Disney+.
