Disney’s 20th Century Studios is in the early stages of developing a new “Master And Commander” film.
According to Deadline, The new film will be written by Patrick Ness, who has previously worked on “A Monster Calls”. The project is still in the early stages and no director, nor talent is attached to the film.
20th Century Fox released “Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World” in 2003 and it starred Russell Crowe as Capt. Jack Aubrey, who after an abrupt and violent encounter with a French warship inflicts severe damage upon his ship, a captain of the British Royal Navy begins a chase over two oceans to capture or destroy the enemy, though he must weigh his commitment to duty and ferocious pursuit of glory against the safety of his devoted crew, including the ship’s thoughtful surgeon, his best friend.
There are over 20 books in Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey–Maturin series, with the original plan to adapt the other books in the series, however the sequel never moved forward.
This new film will be based on the first book in the series, which shows a young Aubrey as he is given his first command and also explores how his friendship with his naval surgeon, Stephen Maturin, begins.
“Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” is currently available on Disney+ in some countries including Australia and Canada.
