Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Sequel Coming Soon

Last year, it was reported that Disney were working on new version of their classic movie, “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” for their upcoming streaming service.  Today, more details have been revealed by /Film, who are reporting that Frozen star, Josh Gad will be playing the lead role of Nick Szalinski.

This new film is set to take place 30 years after the original, which was released back in 1989 and starred Rick Moranis as the inventor, Wayne Szalinski.    The original movie was a huge success for Disney and spawned two sequels called “Honey, I Blew Up The Kid” and “Honey, I Shrunk Ourselves”, plus a couple of theme park attractions including “Honey, I Shrunk The Audience” 3D show.

The rebooted version is apparently just called “Shrunk” and it will no longer be a Disney+ Original and will be released in cinemas first.  However this will still mean it will be on Disney+ about 8 months if this is true.

Looking at the recently released movie schedule, there are multiple vacant slots available in 2021 and 2022, which are currently listed as just “Untitled Disney Live Action” movies.  So “Shrunk” could be released on any one of those dates.

And if the project is no longer a “Disney+ Original”, it could mean the movie is going to have a much bigger budget and considering how great the special effects were back in 1989 and how Disney have used similar techniques in the Marvel Ant-Man movies, this could be an exciting film.

Would you like to see a new version of “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids”?
