Long before the X-Men movies brought characters such as Wolverine and Magneto to our screens, there was a popular animated series, which ran for over 70 episodes, across 5 seasons between 1992 and 1997.

This show originally aired on the Fox Kids Network and was created by Sabin Entertainment, who are more known for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  Both companies have since been purchased by Disney, though Sabin has since been sold on.

Some of the original cast from the X-Men animated series will be appearing at the upcoming Los Angeles Comic Con on October 12th and will see Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast) Chris Potter (Gambit) and Chris Britton (Mr. Sinister) on the stage.

And according to the Hollywood Reporter, the creative team behind X-Men have said that they are planning on approaching Disney with a pitch for an onscreen continuation of the series, perhaps a season of TV that’d keep the aesthetic of the show.

“The one thing we’d like to do more than anything else is to continue where we left off,”

Said X-Men artist Larry Houston says.

It’s currently unknown if the original 90’s animated X-Men series will be available on the upcoming streaming service, Disney+.  But it would make a great addition to the amount of Marvel content available alongside newer shows and movies.

There have been many X-Men animated series over the years, but none ever reached the popularity of the original 90’s series.  Disney is very interested in using nostalgia to sell Disney+ to subscribers, especially those who grew up in the 90’s and 00’s.  And even if the series was given the go ahead, it might be years until anything materializes.

I used to watch the cartoon every weekend when I was a teenager and its one of the biggest reasons why the X-Men characters moved into the mainstream, because this series introduced multiple generations to these characters.

But would you be interested in a continuation of the 90’s X-Men animated series?
